A rescued brown long-eared bat in Wallington, Northumberland, UK. Heat waves and prolonged dry weather are damaging landscapes, gardens and wildlife, the National Trust has said. Reports from sites the charity looks after show that the lichens and mosses that normally thrive in the humid atmosphere of the rare temperate rainforest of Lydford Gorge on Dartmoor are shrivelling, and the heather is struggling to flower on the moorland of the Dunwich Lowlands in Suffolk. Wildfires have broken out in beauty spots in Cornwall, Devon and Norfolk
